Stick with me on this ride because we might go on a bit of a roller coaster but in the end it will be an exhilarating ride.
Know What You Know
Does this make sense, Yes. It makes perfect sense because in this world we were all given strengths and abilities. Find yours, find what you are good at and passionate about and try and become the master of that. It is better to be the best at a small number of things than to be ok at everything. Many times this is what people strive to do; be the jack of all trades.
One of the Best things That Can Ever Happen…
Once you know what you know… you must learn to know what you don’t know. When I tell people this they always say unh? But it makes perfect sense.
The ability to know what you are good at is nothing in comparison to knowing what you don’t know. What happens when you admit to yourself that you don’t know. You either don’t try to know, or you make sure you educate yourself. You do not waste hours trying to learn things that you have no interest to you, or risk being embarrassed because you knew nothing about something you thought you did.
Here is the trick
Somewhere in this world there are many people who love to know what you just don’t know. This is why the saying is “focus on your strengths not your weaknesses” . Why bother to dwell on the fact that you can’t do something when there are other people out there who do not know what you don’t know.
Easy Steps:
1.) Know your strengths
2.) Know your weaknesses
3.) Know it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master something so start now
The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know
The magic about knowing this is that it becomes very difficult for anyone to say anything about you. Nothing comes as a surprise when someone says “ Oh you suck at this” or “You can’t do that”. It bounces of you like rubber because you have known for years that you suck at it.
Example 1 – This Boy Can’t Write
People use to and probably still do rip on my writing and grammar on here, but so what. Coming into this blog I knew what I did not know. Like to be honest with you guys I have no idea when to use a semi colon, yet I still use it in my writing because it looks cool.
I needed a personal lesson from my girl friend at age 20 so that I would stop mixing up than and then and it caused me to get so mad simply because I would not admit what I don’t know.
Now at this point if someone were to come to me and say “damn your grammar sucks” it is nothing for me because I have known that for a while.
Example 2 – Shaking Off Injuries
Negative people rarely get to me because most of the things people try to get at me about I already know. Being injury prone is another example. I know people have said that about me a lot and they wondered if I could ever stay healthy. I knew I was injury prone so instead of getting mad I just admitted I was and you know what happend last season… I did not get injured.
Example 3 – The Warner Brother Magic
Justyn and I magically fit together very nicely. My strengths are talking to people and my ability to just work hard on something for hours on end. While he is straight the bomb at making logos, web design and things of the sort. On our own we are weak and that is why we rarely get in fights because even when we are mad at each other we both know we cant survive without the other because we focus on our strengths and not our weaknesses.
So What…
Rising above negative people means
- Deciding what you want to be a master of and do not stop putting in time until you get that
- Knowing what you don’t know but need to know a bit of and knowing what you don’t know and do not want to know
- When you become a master people quickly forget what you suck at
It might sound weird but when you starting knowing what you don’t know and working on your strengths you slowly feel yourself rise up.
