When I walk around my college campus I always get flustered over all the joggers. Males and females do the same thing, they feel like they are putting some “fluff” on so what do they do? Get their running shoes and their iPod and go jogging for the next hour. Than, on the other hand there are very few people who run fast or sprint for their workouts and I never understand why.
Why Sprint
- Can burn the same calories in a lot less time. Sprinting uses more energy
- Maintains fast twitched muscle fibers (type II)
- Type II fibers can turn to slow twitch (type I) but slow twitch never turn to fast twitch
- Which means once you train slow you stay slow
- Produces a more muscular body, especially if combined with weight lifting
- Do not be fooled, people think distance runners have less body fat than sprinters, this is not always true
Next time before you pick up your running shoes to go for a jog, really evaluate what you are trying to do with your body. Jogging can do some good things but picking up the pace can do some amazing things. Realistically everyone wants to be fast anyway.

Well said, my man. Believe it — sprinting, explosive lifts and plyometrics are by far superior forms of exercise as compared to the long, light and slow. Thanks for the great blog, and for passing on the great sprint-oriented word.
This is just one of those topics that drives me insane, it is good to see someone who agrees with me. Thank you very much for reading Keith, I will keep working on putting out good content for the blog.
Excellent. What I really hate is when people say if you want to burn fat, you have to workout at a long, light intensity. Drives me nuts. Sprints burns way more calories a lot faster, and makes you more muscular as well. Great to see you have got it right. Love the site as well.
