Hungry during practices or even right after practices? Do you feel like your missing a meal? It’s tough sometimes to keep your caloric intake up, when you can’t eat before practice (or it’ll end up in the garbage can) or when you can’t eat right after because you just finished your workout. There is a great solution to this!
This chapter on recovery is just another tool that will allow you to go after it day after day. The problem with training hard everyday is that for that time you are training you are probably missing a well needed meal. That is right where recovery shakes come into play. They provide a way of providing well needed calories to your diet, without the feeling of having to force food down when your not hungry.
It is always easier to drink 500 calories, than it is to eat 500 calories.
You want a drink that has protein and carbohydrates in it; you could buy them both in one or separately. Taking it right after or during a workout can help a great deal with recovering so you can train the next day without over training. It will cost a bit of money but it will be worth the improvements in performance. Ask around to find out what other people like because you want something that works for you, but of course doesn’t sacrifice a great taste.
I remember when I first began taking shakes, I was not a big fan of them at all. Like all things, it takes a bit of getting used to but than two things happened to me: I felt like my body was not as beat up the next day, and if I ever forgot to make one I could feel my body craving for it. Just think this is only another piece of the puzzle, it is not the “lobster bisque” of recovery but I am yet to find something that is. If you combine this and Chapter 1, and the other article coming soon on recovery, than guess what… you will feel like a champion, train like a champion, and best of all you will be a champion. Stay tuned…
