To be great at what you do, you need to take care of your body (and not just with treatments) but with what you put in to fuel your engine.
Last month we started our poll questions of the month and decided to ask a question on a controversial topic; eating around competitions and practices. Much to my surprise we had 73 of you guys vote (see the results below) and the biggest of them all was how you voted! (Thank you to those who did vote!) I was surprised with all the YES votes because how many of you actually eat healthy? That could be a hard job to do 24/7… everyone wants convenience. But does it really matter all that much?

Last month a great article was published on Tyson Gay, American record holder & world double sprint champion, and his life as an athlete. I was shocked reading the article because you would think that with the money Gay was making he would put back into a nutritionist or even a chef, but that wasn’t the case.
“Tyson used to eat out 21 times per week”
21 times a week! (I didn’t even eat out that much when I was in college, and now I don’t even eat out once a week, maybe once a month for myself!) I was shocked reading how he lived his lifestyle, AND still ran a blazing 9.69 in the 100m.
Gay is starting to realize that to challenge Bolt on the track, he had to first figure out why the constant injuries are preventing him from staying on the track, and what’s going to fuel him further to run even faster.
“I’m starting to think it’s a possibility I’m deficient in something. So I’m going to talk to a nutritionist and find out what my body needs, because it’s something every year. Hamstring, back…it’s ridiculous. I think the work starts from the inside out…finding out exactly what it is that I need first, so I can put out what I need to put out on the track.”
So I’m glad a lot of people voted YES it is important, (whether you do it or not lol), I’m glad some people do realize it matters. For those who voted NO, I’d like to hear your reasoning behind that, comment below. Maybe you haven’t had your light bulb turn on yet like Gay to even realize?
Regardless, at some point in your career, if you want to become a great athlete, you need to put down the junk food and pick up the real food. We aren’t all as great and talented as Tyson Gay to eat out as many times a week we’d like and still run quick times, but as Gay noticed himself, it’s the little things that matter!
