Sometimes we just need those extra people in our life to help make our lives a little easier. 12 people every athlete should know is a must if your an athlete, and you’ll see why. Lesson: Never burn old bridges, because you might need that same bridge to cross again. You never know what someone can do for you when you need it.
.) Lawyer – Come on everybody knows or has some issue that you would love to get some legal advice on. What stops us from getting it, how about the fact that lawyers charge a gazillion dollars an hour? Athletes are infamous for doing dumb things that get them into trouble and the top story on ESPN. So before you do anything, run it by your lawyer friend who never charges. Never mind the fact that legal talk is like impossible for a normal person to understand but no worries for you right, just run it by your legal friend.
.) Doctor – I have yet to cover this requirement but I am definitely working on it. Think about it for a second though. You got some problem but you do not want to pay any doctors, or sit in the Emergency room for hours waiting to see one. Just call up your doctor homie and say “what’s up doc”. The doctor can give you boat loads of drugs like they all do and it will save you so much time. Sounds like a plan to me. Do not expect a doctor to help you with muscle injuries unless you enjoy getting prescriptions for pain killers.
.) Computer Junkie – Ok I am a blogger so maybe I am a bit biased on this one. Yah right! If you’re reading this, that means you’re using an electronic device, these things all have problems that distract you from focusing on the tasks of an athlete. Call up your computer friend when ever in doubt and get it dealt with. I have my computer junkie and luckily it is my brother but shhhh he probably won’t be fond of the title.
.) Ride or Die friend – Every athlete needs at least one friend your age and your gender who you can lean on at all times. You may become a superstar or you may fail but they will be there. I have been blessed with a few of these people.
.) People of different colors – To go along with those ride or die friends you can get caught hanging around the same color of people all the time especially if they are the same color as you. In the multicultural world we live in today the media will eat you alive. Why do you think in commercials or paper ads when they have a group of friends they are all types of colors. You got the token black guy who dies first in scary movies, the smart Asian man, the peace keeping white man. There is nothing wrong with it, it is not stereotypical or anything.
.) Lots of kids – (preferably not your own or even worse with a different woman) I was babysitting my girlfriends nephew who is 2 years old while she was at a soccer game. The little bugger started crying so I did what any human with emotions would do and I comforted him to help him stop. All her friends looked back at me and said “awww and told my girlfriend how I am going to make a great dad one day.” AT THAT POINT I realized the power of having little children around you. The world and more importantly media eat it up. I am working on fulfilling this need ASAP.
.) Politician – They run and control this world, end of story. You need something done just call up your buddy who runs the town, city, county, province/state, or if you’re really balling COUNTRY. So many sports come down to politics so… ya politics are what politicians are about. With a politician you can put all your trust in them, because it is not like politicians ever lie right, that’s why are taxes are so low.
.) A Cook (even if you know how to cook) – what athlete wants to come home from a hard day of training day after day and cook for themselves. Call up your buddy who cooks for a living once a week. If you get in real tight he might not scratch the discount and give it to you for free. This category I am also coming up short but never fear I got my eye on a couple friends in culinary arts school.
.) Massage Therapist – If you cannot understand why you would want to be good friends with a masseuse then you probably are not an athlete, and you may need to move around a little more. The advantages of this one can get you around and through so many injuries.
.) CEO of a Fortune 500 company – I would like to say I am nowhere close to knowing one of these people but I have many friends in college so I am praying. This is someone who is well known, and most of the time well respected in the business world. They got money and hey maybe the company can sponsor you and make you the cover person.
.) Accountants – Athletes can be dumb with their money and even if you are not bad with money, an accountant can still help you. Accountants know money and most people love their money. Sooo next person who tells you they are an accountant do not hesitate to take them out for lunch. Notice how I had account with an ‘S’ on it meaning more than one. You know you have to have another accountant to watch over the first account, just in case, you know?
.) Someone in your sport more successful than you – Unless you are the best in the world in your sport, and if you are please leave a comment and tell me because I am honored you are reading this. Let’s be real, it can make your life a lot easier if you are friends with someone who is where you are trying to go.
.) Jack of all trades – This is the friend who allows you to not have to focus on the little problems in life. They can be a plumber, cook (when your cook is busy of course), change the oil on your car; they can do it all to make your life easier.
.) Some one super duper smart who never went to college – The best thing about this person is you can go to them for life advice and they have all the answers. The reason you want someone who did not go to college is because they are not high in demand no one knows or trusts how smart they are but you. To thank you for always trusting in their knowledge they never stop helping you.
How many people you got?
