Erase the Word Can’t

The word can’t is truly a cancer to any athlete.  Before anything great can be accomplished you have to first believe it can be accomplished.  The word can’t throws a huge road block in front of you that must first be analyzed and than a plan needs to be made of how to get around it.

Before the word can’t is used you need to think about why such a word would even pop in your head. Is it that you can’t or because you have not prepared yourself to be able to do it AT THIS MOMENT? Or is it that you are just scared of what will happen if you fail. Being scared of failure does not mean you can’t, it means…well, you are scared.

Something may seem out of reach at this time but that does not mean with some work that it can’t be conquered tomorrow, or next month or years from now.  If you focus towards accomplishing anything no sentence should contain the word can’t.

You can work on anything you need to work on that will make you a better athlete and help you move forward. Some things can be fixed quickly some will take a long time but I don’t get where this word can’t came from.

The reason it is a cancer is because as soon as you say can’t you believe it and it spreads through you vocabulary in the same manner that cancer spreads. Next thing you know you can’t do anything. Can’t is the easy way out, can’t is giving up.

They say that both the person who says they can and can’t are both correct. Now think about that for a minute.  How can two opposite statements be correct? The reason is they both believe what they are saying. The person who says they can will not stop; they will do what it takes to say they did it. While the person who says they can’t has already been defeated mentally.

I’ll never forget this one day when I was doing plyometric jumps with my brother and we were jumping up on top of a wall. As you walked further down the wall it got higher and higher.  Where did I make my most mistakes on the lower part of the wall, because my mind was full of doubts? I did not believe in myself to get up the wall and there for I struggled.

As I got further down the wall I stop being scared and I changed the “I can’t” to I can and I had no problems jumping up the wall. I believed I could jump high enough to clear the wall and that is exactly what I did.

Look deep into yourself and ask yourself why you use the word can’t and stop using it. A can’t can just as easily be a can if you make the choice to let it be. Once you believe in yourself the possibilities in this world are endless.  I realized the power of simple word, and I thought it would only be fair to share with my readers.  Think about it.
