You have to make it your responsibility to be the best you can possibly be. That means not having a million different commitments in life but only having a few. That way the few that you have you can truly excel at.

I played football from age 7 until about 17 and I was pretty good at it. I was never blessed with size; I was far from being the biggest out there. I never let that hold me back; I worked with the things I knew I was good at. I had blazing speed on the field, and more importantly I BREATHED football. I taped every game and I studied what I did right and what I did wrong. I studied other teams to the point where some games I swore I knew their play book better than they did. I worked hard behind the scenes so it made me look good on the field. I spent much of my time playing football video games, and watching pro football.  These only further enhanced my knowledge of the game; I wanted to know EVERYTHING about football.

You Have To Be a Student to the Game

It kills me the amount of athletes I talk to these days that say they love the sport they play, but they cannot say they love it enough to be students to the game. You need to have that burning desire in all aspects of getting better as an athlete.  Being a student to the game is a huge part of it.

What a Student Does

  • Watch film of themselves playing or competing
  • Watching athletes play at higher levels than where they are
  • Listen to suggestions on how to improve
  • Always be looking for ways to improve yourself even if people have good things to say

Out Train Your Competition

You have to always be ready to be better than your competition. It is that simple, you can’t just accept that others are better than you for any reason. If you are weak at agility drills and that is one of your teammate’s strong points you need to have that in the back of your head when you train. The only way you can out train the competition is to work smarter than them in all aspects.

Being a monster is not just about what you do come time for competition. It is about how you live your life. You have to ‘NEED’ becoming better like you need the very air you breathe everyday.
