The Junk Foods You Just Can’t Give Up

You can stop licking the screen now, it’s just a photograph! (Lol) But, who doesn’t love junk food, especially like that nice piece of chocolate-raspberry cake above?!?

I think there’s a junk food out there that everyone just loves and cannot give up! Whether that’s cookies, chocolate, candy, ice cream, pastries, bakeries, chips, fast food …pick your poison. I’m not going to lie, I sure do have my top choices. Even the “great” Usain Bolt apparently had his junk food (Chicken McNuggets) right before his race at the Beijing Olympics.

But but but…the key thing is moderation or none at all! I sure know Bolt doesn’t eat McNuggets every week, and anyone else serious about their training shouldn’t eat their junk food like that either. I’m not going to tell you that you shouldn’t eat junk food because everyone does and should : ) once in a while….just not all the time of course.

Ten months of training, ten months of weights, ten months of staying in shape, and ten months of holding back all the goodies. We all get those undeniable cravings that come out of no where, smack you in the back of the head, and then you just can’t ignore them until your taste buds are satisfied.

For example, I just love ice cream!!!!!! Chapman’s ice cream is my first love!!! Then, Blue Bell ice cream comes in for a close second! Those are the best tasting ice creams I’ve ever tasted…and just plain ol’ vanilla does my taste buds awesome! Anytime I have a craving though I mix up a shake, with a couple spoonfuls (3-4, plus some mouthfuls lol), some protein, milk and it turned into an alright snack before bedtime.

Now, during my season I don’t flood myself with any junk food. Why? Because you are what you eat! The food we consume stays in our system for up to 72 hours. Not good, especially when it was a Big Mac or a Molten Lava Cake! The food you eat has a bearing on your state of mind and health. You may think, “I’m going to pay for this one at practice”, and your body is wondering how that is going to fuel you for practice later or the next day.

Moderation Tips

  • Figure out a clever way to incorporate your sweet tooth in with your training diet. Remember, moderation is essential, and not endulging yourself in a junk food binge….ex) shakes, or smoothies with some of your goodies
  • If you can’t stop munching on your junk food, try substituting it for something else. For cookies, have rice cakes…for ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt…for donuts, a muffin…a slice of cake, have zucchini bread…to sub for chips, have popcorn
  • “Binge” in your off-season…remember what it is that you’re working towards…a Kit Kat once a week won’t get you there any faster

What are the junk foods you have trouble giving up? I’m sure there are some out there who don’t eat junk food at all? HOW? Let me know, and share how you cope with that! Share some ways that you resist your junk food cravings…or those times you just couldn’t resist that Oreo Cookie Sonic Blast!

Mmm mmm good lol
