The College “Chef Boyardee”

by Ian Warner on October 24, 2009

Being in my second year of college I came into this year a bit worried about how my eating would go. Realistically any major meal I had my whole life was prepared by mom and though I paid attention, I was scared I would not be able to hold my own in the kitchen. Like come on im a male, I can not multi-task well at all, and I am busy with school and track, how could I get any good at this cooking thing?

Well my mom always said its not hard to prepare healthy meals for your self, and boy was she right. I eat dinner every single day, and not quick microwave meals I mean proper meals. It can all be done with some simple planning on the weekends for even the most busy of people. I have created a system for myself where I pretty much cook a big meal sunday night when I have time, cook on monday, and cook on tuesday. Since I do not mind left overs at all that is enough to cover me for dinner the rest of the week. It is all about the appliances in my eyes, you can decrease the work that you have to do by having a rice cooker, slow cooker, and a George Foreman. I will talk about meal ideas in another write up.

Tips

  • It goes a long way to simply write out what you want to eat through out the week. Do this on your least busy day
  • When in doubt have some chicken, a baked potato, and some veggies. I do it once a week, it takes 10 minutes max if you have a George Foreman to cook the chicken.
  • Always have meat in the fridge that is cooked and ready to go. I like to have chicken breast ready to eat at all times. Finding things to go with meat makes your job a lot easier.
  • Do not be scared to find a new recipe on the internet and try it out, there are a slew of meals that are fast.

Stay tuned for more on eating, from great meal ideas, to fantastic snacking options.
