Another Year, Another BCS Bust

The picture says it all…BS.

There are A LOT of angry Horned Frogs (including myself), and happy Longhorns. It should be the other way around. But it’s not, because of the way they do the Bowl Championship Series. In my opinion, the dumbest selection process for the top six bowl games in the country.

I sat there last night watching the BCS Selection Show in disgust because Texas was chosen for the National Championship game…and the rest of the bowl games at that! Ya let’s play two undefeated, non-bcs teams against each other? Why do that? Why not let them prove they belong there and play a “Bigger” school…ESPECIALLY since they played last year, let’s move it around!

Problems with the BCS

1. Why are the computers choosing the rankings? Take that out and let the coaches, voters and who ever else vote…

2. Why are there BCS and Non-BCS conferences?
- Are they not all playing for the same thing – a national championship? It’s clear than many “Non-BCS” schools can ball with the “Big” schools.

3. Why does margin of victory not have anything to do with rankings?
- TCU scored 38 points or more in each of its last seven games and allowed 12 points or fewer in six of the last seven.
- Let’s count some of the games that were close within the last couple of weeks, shall we:
Texas vs Nebraska… Are you serious… by a field goal that made it in the post by inches…and they are off to Pasadena
Cincinnati vs Pittsburgh… Cincy was losing by 15 at one point and came back to win by 1 point…they shouldn’t be higher than TCU right now that’s for sure.
Texas vs Texas A&MPittsburgh vs West VirginiaLSU vs MississippiWest Virginia vs CincinnatiIowa vs Ohio State

4. If you don’t play one week, you drop?
- its not the teams fault that they didn’t play that week, can they not rest or just have to keep going every week
- that is the reason they came up with why TCU dropped below Cincinnati

5. Automatic bowl bids?
- we knew for weeks that Ohio State was heading to the Rose Bowl, they were ranked 10/11 and there was still 2 weeks left , scratch the automatic bids and let the top #10 teams at the end of the season be in the BCS bowl games

What the BCS Bowls SHOULD have been:

Championship: #1 Alabama vs #2 TCU
Sugar Bowl: #3 Cincinnati vs #4 Texas
Rose Bowl: #7 Oregon  vs #8 Ohio State
Fiesta Bowl: #5 Florida vs #6 Boise State
Orange Bowl: #9 Georgia Tech vs #10 Iowa

Something has to change with the college football post-season…and quickly. Make it fair for all the schools…or just make it a playoff instead of letting them sit for months on end until their bowl games in January. I think that would truly show who’s the best in the nation.
But until then, TCU just has beat them again, start the polls high and hopefully do it all over again. Maybe then we’ll get some respect (and more games on national TV)

Go Frogs!!!
