Recover Like a Champ: Chapter 4 – Self Therapy

by Ian Warner on February 6, 2010

This might be the most crucial part of the recover like a champ series. NOT because it is the most effective, but because you do not need much more than yourself , some water, and maybe some inexpensive exercise tools. The self therapy regimes can be done when ever you want, you do not have to pay someone, or keep buying things.  There are 4 different systems that I include in my self therapy section and they all have different advantages.  You have the athlete hated ice baths, self massages,  stretching, and foam rolling.

Genetic Juicing is The New Steroids

by Justyn Warner on February 5, 2010

Post image for Genetic Juicing is The New Steroids

The “drastic measures” some athletes (or coaches) will go to so they can be on top.

Steroids are soooo “2000″ like c’mon, we’re in a new decade now and gene therapy is the new performance enhancer. The addition of genes into an athlete whether it works or not. Drastic measures is right! They’ve been tested on mice… Result = BIGGER and FASTER rodents… so therefore they’re good for humans (skip the testing on us… we need that Gold medal and 6 figure contract NOW!)

Desperate times calls for drastic measures? Ya, I think we blew our way past that by now…

by Justyn Warner on February 4, 2010

Thanks to my good bud Jimson at SpeedEndurance, I thought of the idea to add the mobile version of CoverGround.ca

Now Cover Ground is much easier to read on the iPhone, iTouch, Blackberry (Storm only for right now), Androids and the Palm Pre. The site loads about 3 times faster than before and is in a newspaper/magazine style. Continue Reading…

Recover Like a Champ: Chapter 3 – Vitamin Power!

by Ian Warner on February 4, 2010

Post image for Recover Like a Champ: Chapter 3 – Vitamin Power!

Do vitamins really make a difference?

I ask myself that same question every morning and night when I pop them in my mouth as if I’m eating skittles….

The third installment of recovering is one that is probably the most controversial. When it comes to taking vitamins many nutritionists, doctors, athletic trainers or who ever, may say you do not need to take vitamins because if you eat the right foods than you should get all the nutrients you need.  Basically they say your wasting your time and money, and that all of the vitamins are just going to be a waste anyway.

Who Can Run Up To What Speed Now?!?

by Justyn Warner on January 27, 2010

While you’re just cruising at the speed limit  on the main streets (40mph or 60km/h), enjoying a nice day out…you notice a tall, dark skinned man pull up beside your vehicle and block your sun light. You’ll think you’re dreaming but really…you’re not. You quickly check the speedometer to see how fast you were moving and realize…. Yep, you just saw Usain Bolt run right beside your car!

Usain Bolt topped out at 28mph when he set his most recent world record in the 100m, but what is this now, he can go even faster?!?! He could achieve a speed of 40mph! And basically run beside your car on the street for a quick second!! What will the record be set at then?

(Vol1/Jour6) Time’s a Ticking!

by Justyn Warner 01.21.2010

9:23am – So, I’m sitting in the waiting room at Toronto’s top, if not one of the top Sports Medicine Clinics in North America, for my second ultrasound a week later. Checking up again on an old injury from last year to make sure it’s fully healed and that it doesn’t cause any problems [...]

Back on Track Pt.2- The Unknown Struggles

by Ian Warner 01.17.2010

My back injury has been a long road of struggles and it can not even be stressed how badly it hurt me. It ruined seasons, made me cry numerous times, and has taken away the chance to compete for Canada on numerous occasions. That’s ok though,  because over that time it built something that some people do not build [...]

Hungry during practices or even right after practices? Do you feel like your missing a meal? It’s tough sometimes to keep your caloric intake up, when you can’t eat before practice (or it’ll end up in the garbage can) or when you can’t eat right after because you just finished your workout. There is a [...]

by Zovel Hyre 01.10.2010

Have you ever experienced a day when you feel as if you are not performing, as well as you can?
